Mission
Pushing the boundaries of Computer Science
At Max Planck Institute for Informatics, algorithms and their applications have always been at the core of our work, as they form the basis for productive and efficient computer systems. Algorithms affect every facet of modern life and drive industrial innovation. In the last decade, our research has therefore mainly focused on multimodal data processing and addressed the challenge of processing large, diverse, noisy, and incomplete information in robust and intelligent ways. Research at our institute covers a broad spectrum, ranging from exploring the fundamental principles of algorithms and studying systems like the Internet, to multi-modal areas such as computer vision, computer graphics, machine learning and artificial intelligence. The Institute strives to be a world leader in these areas and to set strategic trends by contributing to major advances in computer science through theoretical breakthroughs and practical, experimental validation. We aim to push the boundaries of the field and make an impact through high-quality publications, innovative software and data resources, and the advancement of talented individuals.
