Work-Life-Balance Days at MPI for Informatics
September, 24th and 25th and 26th
Creating a balanced lifestyle in academia
Having a good work-life balance in the academic environment is crucial for the well-being and productivity of researchers.
PhD students are often faced with an intense work environment and need time for personal interests and relaxation to avoid long-term stress.
For faculty in the tenure-track, finding a balance between career development and personal needs is essential to prevent a burnout. As research group leaders, they, like their tenured colleagues in the faculty, face the challenge of leading their research groups in a healthy and positive way, thus creating a healthy work situation.
In this context, we will offer lectures and workshops on the following topics:
Pausing, Planning and Executing:
Techniques for Effective Break and Time Management in Academia
This workshop introduces techniques for effective break organization and time management in an academic context.
Learn how regular breaks, structured time planning and proven methods such as the Pomodoro Technique or Time Boxing can increase your productivity and well-being.
Learn how to reduce daily stress levels, make the most of your resources, and organize your work efficiently to successfully accomplish both short-term tasks and long-term goals -- while getting more out of your free time.
Stress Smart:
Finding Peace Under Pressure
This workshop teaches you how to effectively manage short-term stress in an academic context.
The physiological meaning of stress and its effects on the body and mind are explained.
You will learn how to recognize your own stressors and develop strategies for dealing with them.
Techniques for coping with stress (e.g. relaxation and breathing techniques) and time planning will be presented to help you cope with deadlines for articles and research projects.
The course also shows how resource management can optimize energy and strengthen mental health.
Resilient Researcher:
Strategies for Coping with Academic Challenges
This workshop looks at how to become more resilient when dealing with short-term challenges, but also how to take a preventative approach to stress in the long term.
The program focuses on adaptability, lessons learned from setbacks, emotional strength to cope with stress and anxiety, and ways to build support systems.
It will also show how mental resource management, goal setting, self-efficacy and problem-solving skills can help overcome academic challenges, while remaining mentally stable and maintaining energy for personal life as well.
Lunch Break: Healthy, Delicious and Easy to Make Wraps
We will prepare some healthy wraps together with the participants.
The recipes will be provided to the participants so that they can easily recreate them at home (with the family).
Wraps are also great for meal prepping so that healthy eating does not become yet another "time thief".
We are very happy to invite you to attend this event. Please send us an e-mail to aklasen@mpi-klsb.mpg.de
